“No. 7, Adulthood” is part of “The Ten Largest” series of the “Paintings for the Temple”, where each number represents a stage of development in one’s life from childhood to adulthood. Although often perceived as “another” abstract painting, these groundbreaking artworks were developed in the early years of the 20th century, before Kandinsky and Mondrian.

This is a composition of swirling shapes, different from any physical reference, portrayed in soft yet bold pastel colors against a lilac background punctuated with lines, that invites you to step in and float away. Believing to be ahead of her time, Klint requested that they’d only be shown in public 20 years after her death. In 1986, 40 years after her death, they were finally presented to the world.
